More "Lost" musings...

Having slept, I have a couple more thoughts on last night's episode.
Sawyer: I don't know what extradition agreement Australia has with the US, but now that I know that Sawyer was in jail in Oz, it makes me wonder if the gun and badge he took off the "US Marshall" on the plane...was the US Marshall that was bringing him back. Because, I'm pretty sure he didn't take them off Cap Shrap.
The compass: Sayid thought that the one Locke gave him was broken. Several questions about this. First of all, the pilot said (before the Iron Giant snatched him) that the compass had gone all freaky on them. Second, we didn't get to see if the reading that Locke's compass gave him was the same as the one Sayid made. Third, we don't know that Locke knew the compass was faulty, and if he gave Sayid a faulty compass on purpose. Although, I'm pretty sure that Locke did do that on purpose, possibly to keep Sayid away from the door in the floor.
And fourth: Does it really matter on an island which direction North is, as long as the compass you're using is consistent? I'm not sure it does--unless he's trying to make some sense of Danielle's maps...in which case he could just, you know, turn them to the proper orientation.
Shannon: What a manipulative little bitch. Sayid, honey, you're too good for her, really. I know you've tortured people to death, but at least you're honest about it. She totally slept with Boone so he'd keep his mouth shut.
Boone: The kid had it bad. "Relief" that she was dead? The relief that comes from being released from a stressful situation, I suppose. If she died, he wouldn't have to take care of her anymore, wouldn't have to be manipulated by her anymore, wouldn't have to deal with her crap anymore. And yes, PTB...the thought of those two having sex is squicky, even if they're not blood relations. I wish I could quantify why, but it just "don't seem proper, somehow." It's like the Brady's Greg and Marsha getting it on. Just, ew, you know?
Which brings us back to Locke: Boone's been co-opted by Locke, because Locke "freed" him from his Shannon-shackles. Locke is having the time of his life here, because he finally matters. We don't know what he was before he was a collections agent for a box company, but I wonder if he had some sort of mentor-y thing with Boy Scouts or something that he couldn't do anymore when he wound up in the chair, and he missed that, and now he's taking full advantage, first with Charlie, and now with Boone--and to what extent we haven't seen yet, with Walt. He doesn't want to leave this island any time soon.
And finally, Shannon's "death": That wasn't the writers manipulating us, the viewers. That was them getting Boone to the point he needed to get to, in order to be able to let her go, so that he'd realize something about her as well as himself. Sometimes I think the TwoPers are deliberately dense, you know?
