We went to the theater to see "Christmas with the Kranks" and "National Treasure." The critics are apparently hating them both. Ignore them; they're idiots.

"Christmas with the Kranks" was a lovely little holiday movie. Quite enjoyable for the whole family, it's about family and neighbors and giving and all that mushy stuff. It wasn't good enough to go in the video collection, but it made me sniffle at the end, and it was better than okay. Ya know, I've never seen a sucky Tim Allen movie... Three stars out of four, for me.

"National Treasure" was a whole nother ball of wax. Oh, my goodness, the droolworthyness of Nic Cage and Sean Bean on the screen at the same time...*cough*straightening clothes*ahem* Okay. Yeah, anyway, there was a plot too, and it was quite excellent. The characters were interesting and engaging, the action was terrific, and the payoff at the end was GREAT. It rocked from beginning to end. This one is definitely going in the DVD collection. Four stars out of four. Yeah.

The nice thing about both these movies was that there was nothing terribly offensive in either of them. A "damn" in "Kranks" and some gunplay in "NT" was all. It's unusual to be able to go to a pair of movies and not say "You know, they would have been great except for [insert gratuitous profanity, nudity, or violence here]." And it proves that you can make good movies, that people will go to, without all that garbage.

Hollywood, listen up.
