Nov. 20th, 2004 11:45 amYou know, I was debating getting myself banned from
ginmar's LJ for explaining exactly what a "feminazi" is, as a comment to her last rant, but decided it's just not worth the drama and splooge that would invariably result. Therefore, I'm going to talk about something that is completely unimportant: Commercials!
Okay, there are some commercials that drive me absolutely up the freaking wall. I want to grab whoever thought it was a good idea to give a stick of gum a Scottish accent and a gung-ho personality, and throttle them. Those "Extra" gum commercials are some of the most utterly annoying things I've ever had the misfortune to have my eyes abused by.
On the other hand, there are some television ads that are just gems. Oddly, many of them, lately, are car commercials...or related to cars. The NASCAR "Timeless" ones are just *so* good. Juxtaposing the old-style cars with the new ones, and the black-and-white film with the color, is way cool. That shot with them going four wide? Totally awesome.
On the same note, the new Mustang commercial with Steve McQueen gives me warm fuzzies as well. Most of my younger readers will have no idea who he was, or why that ad is so special, and all I can say is, Hie thee to a video outlet and rent "Bullitt." Then you'll get it. Seriously. That movie defined car chases for that time.
Okay. Must write. Really.
