"House" musings...
Mar. 15th, 2005 08:55 pmDude, I am so this show's bitch. Poor little Cameron. Of course he doesn't like you, honey. He doesn't like anyone--except Wilson. But he took you to the Monster Truck thing...so it may be that he loves you. Which, I hope the show doesn't go there, really. Not only would it be bad for the team, but that way leads to heartache for everyone involved, and I watch this show for the funny, not the angst.
Interesting that he was willing to go to the mat for that patient. He really is a good doctor; he just hides the fact that he cares under a bunch of snark and sarcasm--because caring opens you up to being hurt and he doesn't want to show that vulnerability to anyone. Wilson knows; I think Cuddy might have an inkling (and how very interesting that her answer to "Did you sleep with him" wasn't an unequivocal "Hell NO!"). I'm not sure the Ducklings have figured it out yet.
In fic writing news, I've been staring at the Temp!Corp fic. And man...I think Spike's going to have to drink from Fred, because I've totally written myself into a corner. *sobs uncontrollably* I think I'll be working on something else (the new MustardVerse "what if I stumble" fic) until I solve that problem--because I don't want to go there. That would be three fics with that particular element, and I'm starting to see a pattern here. And while I don't think it's a bad pattern per se, I don't want all my fics to start looking alike either.
Argh.

Date: 2005-03-16 01:28 pm (UTC)I like this show too, but they really need to get a medical advisor. There are always a couple of really blatant medical gaffes every episode: one from last night was the mispronunciation of 'Wernicke' by House as 'Wer-NICKs'. If someone is familiar with that condition/term/anatomical landmark, they know it's pronounced 'VWER-ni-kay'. One other grossly mispronounced term/misused term was in an earlier ep, where everyone insisted on pronouncing 'MRSA' (a nmemonic for methycillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) as 'mersa', which is wrong beyond the telling. It's M-R-S-A (you say all the letters).
::sigh::
But I really wanted to snog him after the Cameron thing :g:

Date: 2005-03-16 06:21 pm (UTC)Any show that uses a specialized field is going to get stuff wrong unless they have someone on the staff that really knows their stuff. The CSI:NY ep with the dog show death had a couple of things that drove me crazy, although I can't remember specifics right now.
Heh. Isn't it funny how we as fanfic writers hold ourselves to higher standards of research than these shows appear to?

Very true!! Maybe because as fanfic writers, we have more to prove to people who are actually detail-conscious. Last night, I'm sure the producers were more concerned with whether or not Cameron looked cute while pouting rather than if she actually knew what she was talking about.

Date: 2005-03-16 08:20 pm (UTC)Ha, I was really afraid that he was going to go and say "No. I love you." But hurray, he left it at "No." I should have known better. And was the whole debate book thing just so that they could get to that one scene?

Date: 2005-03-17 06:53 am (UTC)The Cuddy stuff? Man, he so obviously slept with her at some point in time. No denials there. Now that would be a relationship I would like to see. Would be very interesting. If he would just stop flirting with Wilson, that is. But I think that Wilson is very angry with House right now, so no more banter?
My father-in-law is a doctor and I'm sure he'd sit there and snark his way through the episode about the medicine in it. Sure it is probably wrong in places. He did that for ER one night for us. They messed up all over the place. He should know. He was once the head of a trauma unit. So I definitely don't watch for the medicine.
