Yup. Yesterday's events made me think (again).

Is Islam really a religion of peace?

The more I see, the more I think, no, it's not. Of course, my perspective is that of a conservative born-again Christian. And my brethren have their kooky side, no question about it. But, okay...when the "Christian" kooks do something stupid (like bombing an abortion mill or killing an abortionist)--the mainstream Christians are immediately on the air, saying, we don't support this, this is terrible, this isn't how Christians are supposed to act. Even people as "out there" as the Rev. Falwell and Rev. Robertson condemn such acts.

So, what happens in Islam when something like what happened yesterday happens? Dead silence, or, at best, a weak "We're a religion of peace" affirmation. At worst, the mullahs praise the people (I use the term loosely) who commit the atrocities we saw yesterday. These are folks who send their children out with bombs strapped around themselves and praise Allah when they take out women and babies enjoying a pizza.

As the lovely [livejournal.com profile] jerib_78 says: You keep saying that word (peace). I don't think it means what you think it means.
