I slid in under the deadline last night; my Writing Buddy gave me fodder and I madly scribbled. Let's see where we stand, shall we?

And now I'm going to reset the count, because there's a scene in the novelthing that doesn't fit, so I'm excising it, and I don't see me working on the Ghost Ship story any time soon, so...yeah.

At least I cracked 1500 words on the Ghost Ship story, so there's that. And I've added yet another complication. I just hope I can finish it in the next 3500 words or so.

This week is better, especially since I started a new story for Writers of the Future. Not much better, you understand, but better.

Not bad. Not great, not gangbusters like I was doing when I was cranking out a thousand words a day each on the novel and the Cow story, but I'll take it. It's early days yet.

Because it's time for the Weekly Word Count, and I basically sucked this week. I hit the putative goal, but only because I pushed through and wrote the (part of) the scene that's been giving me fits all week.

Note to self: It's allowed to suck. This is why we call it a First Draft. Or, in this case, a Vague Outline. A hundred-thousand-word Vague Outline, but still.

Yesterday was spent in a massive editing job combining a couple of scenes, reversing dialogue tags so the situation makes actual sense, and whacking out some stuff that didn't need to be there.

Of course, a lot of it is that repetitive bullshit I was bemoaning yesterday, so much of it will probably be cut and/or combined in the finished product, but this is why we calls it a "draft." Or, in my case, an "outline."

And then I had the horrible thought this morning that maybe Ben should be raped in prison by someone who hates his guts and he could say "Yeah, I was, but not by her. Trust me, I know the difference."

And then I ripped a hunk of hair out of my head and locked my Muse in a tight, windowless room. Where he will stay until he stops piling on the poor guy.

Forewarned is forearmed: I'll probably be spamming somewhat today, because I need to tell y'all about a very spiffy book by the handsome and talented ccfinlay, and I've also got the new issue of Realms of Fantasy to talk about.
