Drabble for open_on_sunday LJ Community

The challenge: go to Dictionary.com's Word of the Day Archive. Check out the words of the day for your birthday -there are four or five years to choose from. Use the word as a title for your drabble, and/or work it into the drabble.

My words were:
Redoubt: A stronghold
Malodorous: Having a bad odor
Yen: A strong desire or inclination
Garrulous: Talkative; also, wordy
Provender: Food or provisions

I actually managed to work three of them in there. With a little work, I might be able to get four--but I don't feel like it right now. So, without further ado, here it is.

I'll never scale the redoubt of Buffy's heart. I'm solid, comfortable. She likes me, but love? No. Spike is right; she needs some monster in her man. And I'm too tame.

So I flirt with it. Going to that malodorous vampire bordello, letting the girls bite me just enough to get dizzy. After a time, it's become something I need, not just something I want. Some night, I might let one bite my neck. Why not? Buffy did.

And maybe, just maybe, if I let it go too far once...she might see just what a monster I can be.
