A couple of rants that have been brewing:

Fallujah shooting:
You know, I'm really sick and tired of the armchair quarterbacks who are going to be dissecting the actions of the soldier that shot the guy who was playing dead in that mosque. He had a split second to make that decision, and they'll have all the time in the world to sit there in judgement and tell him he was wrong. This is a guy who was shot in the face the day before, and who had seen a buddy get turned into hamburger by a booby-trapped body. You're damn right that if you're in a situation like that, you shoot first and ask questions later.

And to all these Muslims that are so outraged and hollering that "This is against Islam!" Is it? Is it also against Islam to store weapons in Mosques and holy places? Is it against Islam to plant bombs on bodies? Is it against Islam to blow up buses and pizza parlors full of women and children? How about sawing the heads off hostages with dull knives? Shut the hell up and screw you very much. He's a soldier in a combat situation. Clean up your own damn backyard and get outraged by the actions of your own compatriots before you sit in judgement of ours.

Demonizing opponents:
You know, for a party of "tolerance," the Democrats are sure intolerant when it comes to viewpoints that disagree with theirs. Now, it's true, I have a tendency to think that the people who disagree with me are misguided, or uninformed. That being said, I don't think they're stupid

However, the vitriol emanating from the oh-so-tolerant Left is amazing to behold. They're not content to merely call those of us who enthusiastically voted for President Bush "misguided." No, we're engaged in a "jihad" (Maureen Dowd). We're not only "unenlightened" (Garry Wills)--we can't even be taught (I don't remember who said that, but someone did, in the heady days after the election). And we've had the "racist, bigot, anti-woman, homophobe" labels thrown at us so often that we don't even notice it anymore. Yup, we didn't vote for President Bush because we like him and his policies...we did it because we're stupid. Not only don't we think, we don't even know how.

They're not content to simply disagree and attempt to persuade in the arena of ideas. They must demonize their opponents. I find all this incredibly condescending, especially in light of the fact that CNN found that 52% of college graduates voted for President Bush (me among them). The latest attacks on Dr. Condoleezza Rice are a prime example. An Oliphant cartoon comparing her to a parrot, a quite racist Doonesbury comic (he ceased being funny a long time ago), a Danziger cartoon comparing her to Prissy in "Gone With the Wind," and an article in the Daily Mirror all attack her outrageously. If the same things were said about a liberal African-American person, the shit would absolutely hit the fan. But since she's a conservative, she's off the reservation, and thus fair game to the elitists who feel the need to yank these "uppity" Black people who dare to think for themselves back in line. Clarence Thomas (soon to be "Chief Justice" if all goes well) came in for the same sort of treatment.

I sat back and watched the liberal hysteria over the re-election with some bemusement. My conservative compatriots and I went through the same reversal of fortunes eight years ago with the re-election of Bill Clinton, without having temper tantrums and threatening to leave the country (go ahead; don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, if you feel that strongly about it). And there are the normal, every-four-years articles on "What's Rush going to talk about now?" Dude, he's been on the air for sixteen years. Liberals get funny when they're out of power. Don't worry, he'll have plenty of fodder for his show.

Whew. Ranting feels good.

Hear! Hear!

I am far from a "racist, bigot, anti-woman, homophobe", so are many of the people that I know who have voted for President Bush.
I went with my heart, I see a man of great compassion for his fellow Americans. who better to lead this country? He is a man of principle; who will not bow to any man, only to God. I respect that.

See, this is why I get my news from the Daily Show. Not only do they present both viewpoints (although Jon leans left), but they make fun of both sides. And they are funny without resorting to name calling. Like what Jon Stewart said about Condoleeza Rice becoming Sec. of State: "Condoleeza Rice will be giving up her main duty: sitting behind Bush giving people the stinkeye."

I agree with you that this is unconscionable. It should not be done and it should be stopped. If you are going to call someone a name or accuse them of soemthing do it in a reasonable and measured manner. Even if you must attack someone, for god's sake do it like an adult. I agre right now a lot of Democrats are out of line. I have also seen a lot of republicans way out of line too. it seems to be a symptom of this day and age.
