I finally just bit the bullet, sat down, didn't worry about the broken parts, and wrote it. In the end, that's all you can do. I scribbled 1300 words, it came in at 10,600, and my grand total for this project is:

53,100 words

So. Not only did I hit 50k, but I blew past it to the other goal, which was 52,700, and then I blew past that too.
