That Polanski escaped justice for so long doesn’t mean he’s no longer guilty, or ‘has paid enough’, or that the law no longer applies to him. It just means it’s about damn time that a pedophile rapist should get what’s coming to him.
And the people who signed that petition protesting the arrest … beyond contempt. It puts the elitist argument directly up front: “The normal laws shouldn’t be applied to someone like him [us]; we’re different, we’re more important, we’re special.” Despicable arrogance.
