I got tagged my
mommanerd for the "Five Favorite Fics" meme.
Understand that I've written over sixty stories, plus seven drabble collections. Picking only five out of those? Is going to be...tough. But I'll give it a shot. I may add Honorable Mentions to the mix.
Hair Fetish: This story is so wrong. It's Firefly, Jayne/Zoe, and it's part of a series of stories beginning with Blooming Cactus that grew out of my frustration with stories that had River being the catalyst for Zoe dealing with her grief, post-movie. A few of those were fine and good, but it seemed as though the entire fandom had the collective idea at once and they were all over the place. So, I had the thought: What if it was Jayne instead? Jayne certainly makes no secret of the fact that he's attracted to Zoe, and I think she might go for someone...uncomplicated. So, yeah. And this one was silly and fun and played to my own hair fetish a bit.
Starting from Scratch: I love crossovers. Love reading them, love writing them. This one, Angel/Firefly, is one of my favorites because I got to experiment with style a little bit. It's first-person POV, but it switches from present-tense Illyria to past-tense River. And it also allowed me to indulge in my cast-iron fic kink, which is (generally) Spike needing some other character's blood because he's injured so badly that pig just won't do. This time it was River's.
A Mess of Pottage: BtVS, the second story in my "Christian Spike" series. The Hubby gave me a challenge: Work an illustration of what happened in the Garden of Eden into the BuffyVerse. So I've got an OC Slayer, who is completely screwed up, and Spike tries to help her.
Whatever Mr. Stark Requires: My one and only foray into Iron Man fandom because I don't write fanfic anymore. Oh, Tony.
Cerberus: Firefly. Because beating the shit out of my favorite characters never gets old, and Jayne is more fun to beat on than most. Now, if that was all this was, it wouldn't make the list. But then I got a review for it from (apparently) a rabid Rayne fangirl, wondering in all innocence what would happen if River and Jayne didn't get rescued right away. Well, let's see. Jayne's been beaten with a cat o'nine tails and a chain flail, and electrocuted a few times. He's a human man, not a vampire. DUH. HE'D DIE. And then the Muse tugged on my sleeve and said "Alternate ending, y/y?" So, I wrote that. And it was sooooo heartbreaking. TEARS, I tell you. And then... I got another bunny for an alternate middle. So I scribbled that. And it was a lot of fun to write.
Honorable Mentions:
Guiding Star: I love getting Lilah out of her W&H contract. Seriously.
Nature's Special Effects: BtVS, post-Chosen, Xander. Dinosaur fic! Nuff said.
Partners in Crime: My first Firefly fic. Kaylee brings a kitten aboard the Serenity, and it makes Jayne's life miserable. Pure screwball comedy.
Solid State: Angel. Spike/Fred. This one drove me nuts for something like a year. Once I figured out that Doyle should make an actual appearance in it instead of Lindsey-as-Doyle, it all came together.
Assimiliation: Firefly. Reaver attack. Probably the best thing I've ever written. It's horror and contains character death, because, yeah. Reaver attack.
Survivor's Guilt: The threesome that wasn't. I wrote this as an extra for the UnFicathon, but it wasn't quite what was requested, so I don't think I ever posted it there. Post-NFA, Spike, Angel, and Illyria deal with the aftermath.
Perplexing Sentiments: Completely self-indulgent Spike/Illyria, containing my cast-iron fic kink.
And of course, the rest of my fic is here.
Writing? What is this "writing" of which you speak? Yeah, I got nothin' today.
