Not enough Seabreezes and chocolate on the planet to make me feel good about this, but it's not exactly unexpected.

I can't help but think that if the GOP had picked the candidate the base wanted rather than the candidate the media wanted (Mitt Romney!), the outcome might have been different. And all I hope for now is that, in two years, we get the same result we got under Clinton, with a GOP House and Senate again.

And I HOPE that Obama doesn't CHANGE us into, I don't know, France. Or Venezuela.

Oh well. At least this year I don't have to wait up until midnight.

Maybe you'll be lucky, and he'll change you into Canada.

Can't pretend I'm not extremely happy, but sorry you can't be.

I now have to put up with a billion posts heralding this as some kind of fucking messianic reign.

I think that the news called some states too quickly, but since John conceded, does that mean it doesn't matter if they were wrong on some?

I don't know if I've ever held a candidate to such high standards as I will hold Obama to in this presidency. He better deliver, I mean DELIVER his promises. If he preaches change he better damn BRING IT and I don't mean turning us into a socialist nation.

Agreed the GOP should have picked another candidate.

Sadly, I don't want to be Canada, either. I like being us, you know?

Ah well. This too shall pass. And I'm certainly not going to do like some people did four years ago and beat my breast and threaten to leave the country just because my candidate of choice didn't win a frakking election. I'm not that much of a baby. Why, yes, Alec Baldwin, I'm looking at you. Why didn't you go away?

Sorry. Rambling now. Will shut up.

Yeah, I actually found out via my flist first because my local Fox News was doing the damb weather. Yay, LJ.

Yeah, I'm not surprised by the result, but it doesn't make it any less disappointing.

I really hope my fears and gut feelings are wrong about Obama and that he won't screw up this country. I really hope I'm wrong... I really do. But I can't help but think we'll get higher taxes and become more socialist under Obama.

I was surprised at HOW CLOSE it was though! The national popular vote was only a couple million votes difference, last time Fox News showed it. (45 million versus 42 million).

Also McCain's concession speech was REALLY REALLY good. It shows his true character, which is very honorable. And he made Sarah Palin tear up when he said good things about her! Aww.

Yeah, I love how all those liberal celebs were threatening to leave the country if Bush got elected (then re-elected). It's like "yes please leave" but then they didn't. Oh well. Although I'm not happy, I'm not going anywhere.

Well, we endured eight years of Clinton. I'm not going to ask "how much worse could it be than that" because I'm a writer and that way lies badness, but the country is still the country and this too shall pass.

I KNOW. At least Johnny Depp put his money where his mouth was and moved to France, and I can (almost) respect that. Alec Baldwin? Not so much, dude. 30 Rock may be a good show, but I'll never grace it with my viewership because he's in it and I get ill when I see him. All I can think of is "Ew getitoff getitoff getitoff!" when he's on the screen.

I fail to understand why rich RICH hollywood actors vote for Obama, because he clearly stated he'll raise taxes on people who make more than $250k. Which nearly all of them do.

I doubt that Obama will turn you into Canada. We Canadians are quite happy to have you guys down there turn yourselves into the best Americans you can be, and the best world citizens you can be too. It's a small planet, and we all need a strong and compassionate America, one with vision and energy, to help us all out of the mess we're in. So, I wish you all the best, whether you're Republican or Democrat, or neither of the above.

They vote Democrat because the majority of them are hedonists with no sense of personal responsibility, and the Dem Party champions that. Look at what happens when one of them is caught with his pants down. Barney Frank's roomie can run a gay brothel out of his apartment, and gets a slap on the wrist. Bob Packwood makes an inappropriate remark in an elevator and gets drummed out of the party.

Accountability. We haz it. Hollyweird doesn't.

See that's another thing I could ramble about for days-- social issues.

Look at the county breakdowns once all the numbers are in. The VAST majority of counties in this country are conservative, but the liberal counties are the ones that have big metropolitan cities.

Why is that by the way? Why are big cities liberal?

I have no idea. What's funny is that the GOP is seen as the party of Big Business, but Big Business votes Democrat. Look at people like Warren Buffett and George Soros. It's those of us in the middle, in flyover country, ordinary people, that vote Republican--look at the map! It's the elitists that vote Democrat, in overwhelming numbers.

And now I'm womanfully resisting the urge to flip the bird at my TV. Does he think that the rest of us haven't been watching this election? Oh, god, this speech isn't giving me any HOPE at all...

I have it on mute. I don't know if he can cite any more random moments in history. And thank you for reminding me that big business and Money votes Dem. Man I hate propaganda.

I'm with you Jesse Jackson, ;____;

They need to stay the hell out of issues that belong to the STATES.

Jefferson is rolling in his grave over shit like Roe v Wade because the federal government and Supreme Court have no place deciding shit like that.

STATES' RIGHTS!!!

My (liberal) mom was all up in my grill about Sarah's husband belonging to an organization that wanted Alaska to secede. God help me, I understand the sentiment! Not that I want any state to secede, because we all know how well that went last time, but I get it.

I'm not sure what grounds ALASKA would have for secession. I'd oppose them doing it but I sorta feel like bailing out right now myself.

I have just the one bottle, and I've been saving it. I recently did some housecleaning, and was alarmed at all the empty liquor bottles I've collected over the past year. A sobering realization, pun intended.

I'm staying! Not letting them drive me out. And I'll be here bitching when Biden says or does something dumb or Obama does something that crushes freedom.

But I'll be classy about it. So there.
