I think the Giant Bugs fic might be my Breakout Story.

Which is weird. I have stories I like better than this one. The DragonFic and the Werewolf Fic are two I can think of right off the bat. This may be a function of me preferring to read humor over angst.

However, the Giant Bugs story has the Big IdeaTM. It's got the gut punch at start and finish. It's got a character with the best of intentions that go terribly, terribly wrong.

Therefore. I'm going to spend the next month editing the everlivin' crap out of this story. And then I'm going to send it to Writers of the Future. This way, I don't have to worry so much about the deadline--I have the story; all I have to do is whip it into shape. And I don't think that'll be difficult.

In the meantime, I need to figure out what's next...

I think you may be right. It's got the most emotional impact.

I thought that about my "Dream Keepers" story (and still do to some extent, though I realize that the story is a bit rough--it's the world that I discovered/invented on that one that just thrills me). And then I thought that about "In the Meantime" which I still REALLY like, but it's getting rejected all over the place. My point being, you never really know do you? ;) I mean, did you expect your first story that got published to be the one that finally broke the barrier?

At the time, the DragonFic was the best thing I'd written, and it sold to the first market I shipped it to. Which, yes, was completely unexpected! But I'm thinking that the Giant Bugs story might break me into the majors. I can tell that it's at least a step above anything else I've ever written. At the same time, I do expect everything I've written to be published somewhere. So far, the majors aren't biting, but I'm not done with them yet.

I could be totally wrong, of course. It's a funny business. ;)
