Well...it's a little more complicated than that. But I think that if you perceive yourself to be alone, then it doesn't matter which side you fight for, because it seems like no one else cares and all you should do is look out for Number One.
I'm watching Buffy Season 3 in reruns right now, alongside Angel Season 4. It makes for an interesting perspective.
