For Astrobiology and the Sacred:

What is the future of life on Earth?

What if we don't go out with a bang, but a whimper? Technological advancements in Third World countries (cheap power!) result in a similar "birth dearth" we're seeing in Europe and America right now. Advances in birth control make it so that people ONLY have babies when they take active measures to do so, further depressing birth rates.

In the meantime, people with the "Pioneer Personality" leave Earth in droves looking for greener pastures. The drop in birth rate results in an infrastructure collapse as cities empty out and people become more physically isolated from each other.

I like this. I just need to figure out a way to personalize it for characters that are interesting, and give them a specific problem that they can solve. Or, you know...NOT solve.

I've often said the world will end neither in a bang or a whimper...just mountains and mountains of paperwork.

i like this too! it's very interesting, in my opinion. it's like flavors of Firefly/Serenity, but not like too close. i especially like the birth control theory. good luck with it!

Forget praying, food storage, and clean water...I'm stocking up on boxes of paperclips and staples with which to sort the Paperwork Apocalypse when it comes. *waves tiny fist at the Four Horsemen - PaperCut, DefectiveStapler, ThumbTack, and PrinterJam*

Ooo. I think the not solve has serious possibilities. I love the pioneer aspect. You could have a conversation among a group of people with Earth in their rear view mirror. Hmm.

Check out "children of men". It has some similar themes of humanity going out with a whimper. Sorry to troll, I was sent to Fandom wank to do some research on a project, and your name was there because of an old flame war you had with an internet kook (like, who am I?). Didn't want to stir it up again, so I will just say hi and thanks for being interesting.

Oh, yes, that's definitely on my "movies I *must* watch" list. :)

And that was a wild and crazy incident, for sure. I still have no earthly idea how she even found that entry, six months after the fact, but find it she did, and the spooge, she did a-flow. That being said, that entry you've got about the wank she's involved with? She might find it and go off on you. Fair warning...

And, erm, thanks for finding me interesting. :)

I think I would throw a wrench ito it by just worshipping her madly. Play to the ego, it always works. And how can you go off on somebody who actuallly finds you going off on somebody funny?

Also, it IS actually for research for a project, so if she went off it owuld be grist for the mill. I find her "poodles" more interesting, to be honest. The guys who just go on to agree with her? Fascinating people.

Oh yeah, don't worry, I'm not a creep or anything, I'm married and all that. Also I am quite old.

Uh...heh-heh... Do I have to get my WHOLE foot in my mouth, or will just chewing on my shoe suffice? I have an old pair of Payless slip ons I was just going to throw out.

Hey, no worries. I guess I just don't sound as old as I am over the internet, and I'm into a lot of fannish stuff (like Buffy) that most people would associate with the "younger" set. :)

Okay, you warned me! I got in a flame thingee with Ginmar on a friend's site! It was awesome, I had read so much about her she had become almost mythical--it was like I got to meet BIGFOOT or something (I actually may have said that to her) I seemed to dumbfound her because she would hurl names and abuse, and I just kept telling her how awesome she was. Then she kind of wandered off. I guess she couldn't figure out an angle to work from...

THAT WAS SOOOO COOL!!

I am not computer literate on any level, but this is the LJ site of the latest bigfoot sighting. I think I did it right....
