I have cast my eyes abroad for my next story.

And I found this.

For the link-o-phobic, it's a writing competition examining "Astrobiology and the Sacred," and they want you to write a short story (under 5000 words) examining one of the following topics:
  • Why did life emerge on Earth?
  • Could there be life forms independent of biology?
  • Is life in the universe sacred?
  • What is the future of life on Earth?
  • How would the discovery of extraterrestrial life affect our self-image?
  • Is life in the universe inevitable?
  • Do art or ethics have universal meaning?
  • What would it mean if we were truly alone?

Fascinating topics, yes--especially for a young-earth creationist to examine. Deeper than I usually write, as I'm generally more about "tell me a story" than "sell me a theme," but I'm going to go for it, I think.

The prizes are $1000 for 1st place, $500 for second, and $250 for third.

They have to get your entry by June 15. Who's with me?
