I've barely gotten into this Alan Dean Foster book, and you know what really made me pick it up? Other than the obvious talking dog, which I'm a sucker for?
The fact that the blurb on the bookjacket says "This former college football star has plenty of American ingenuity and no intention of admitting defeat, now or ever." [emphasis mine]
You just don't see descriptions like that any more, because it seems like a blurb can't mention stuff like "American ingenuity" for fear of the publisher being seen as jingoistic or some such silly damb thing. In case you're curious and want to check it out, the book is called "Lost and Found" and the trilogy is complete. I've barely started it, but I like the protagonist already.
