We were going to see "Ratatouille" in a real theater rather than the drive-in. The picture is better, the Megaplex theaters have real food you can take into the theaters, etc.
Well, that went out the window when we found out that it's playing with "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" at the drive-in. Not only is the drive-in hella cheaper than the Megaplex ($6/person, under 9 gets in free, bring our own food, TWO movies for the price of one [under $20, total]--as opposed to $5.75 each for all three of us for the matinee, plus all that food [round about $45]), but that's one heck of a double feature.
"Ratatouille" is brilliant. Fer reals, dudes. Simply fabulous. Not only that, but the short they have before it, "Lifted," is hysterical. Hubby didn't like it as much as "For the Birds" or "Bounding," but I liked it better than "Bounding," which I thought was...kinda weird. This may be a function of the fact that I'm a sci-fi geek and he isn't, and "Lifted" is an alien abduction thing. So, yes, go see this.
Pirates held up way better under a second viewing. Now that you know what's going on, it's a whole lot easier to keep track of the plot twists and who's working the angles and who's betraying whom.
Also, Captain Barbossa never gets old, man. He needs way more screentime. Like, all the screentime.
And now that I've seen it again, I'm reconciled to another series of movies. HOWEVER...I think that they should leave Will and Elizabeth out of it. Their story arc is over; stick a fork in them, they're done. I want Jack and Barbossa and the Pearl hunting for that thing they're hunting (see, I can be vague and non-spoilery). And I want them to use the same writers. Because I'm terribly impressed with the storytelling they managed to do based on a freaking ride at Disneyland, dudes.
Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans. We have fireworks, which is sort of like taking a twenty-dollar bill and setting it on FIRE, but it'll be cool. I'm fair certain we'll get twenty bucks worth of entertainment out of it.
