So, I wandered over to the Writers of the Future website today, as I am wont to do, to see if we had any updates on when the results will be in. Huh, sez I, they have a blog. I peruse the thing and notice that it says:
I got with Judy today and asked when the results would be out for the fourth quarter. She said the stories were out with the judges and she was hoping to the results in, hopefully as early as next week. I'll let you know as soon as she lets me know. [emphasis mine]
But, but, but... sez I, the fourth quarter ended, according to the rules, September 30. They should be judging the first quarter now, shouldn't they? The one that started October 1 and ended December 31? Unless John's got his dates and quarters frelled, which is, of course, a distinct possibility. Keeping track of such an enormous enterprise would have to tax your resources, and having the fourth quarter end when the year does makes eminent sense.
But if I'm going to have to wait until April or May for the results, I think I may cry.
