I fail. I'm having some problems with my voice in this thing. It takes place in 1880 Texas, and I thought that maybe reading some Will James would help, but he has such a unique style that it...didn't. I may need to break out my Max Brand. Le sigh.

That being said, I'd forgotten James's story about the Seeing Eye ranch ponies. That was a treat to re-read. And the good news is that I moved my plot forward. Microscopically.

In other news, I was thinking about wank in the Buffy fandom, and how we sometimes still get it. And I was surprised, since the shows have been over for a fair bit. And then I remembered that this is the fandom that turned knock-down, drag-out fights over which vampire Buffy should be emasculating is Buffy's twu wuv (poor Riley, the actual human boyfriend, left out in the cold) into an art form, and then I'm no longer surprised. Honestly, Sun Tzu could take a page out of the Spuffies' and Bangels' books and rename his own book "The Art of Shipping Wars."

Ah, I love the smell of hypocrisy on a Wednesday.

Let me get this straight. An out-and-proud Democrat (Gary Studds) buggers a 17-year-old boy in 1983.

Republicans: OMG SO WRONG. *censure*
Democrats: OMG HOMOPHOBIA HOW DARE U QUESTION THE PURITY OF THEIR TWO WUV?
Constituents: *re-elect. six times*

Fast-forward to 2006. A closeted Republican exchanges inappropriate (but fairly innocuous) emails with a 17-year-old page. Drudge is now reporting that the IMs that everyone's been having a hissy fit about were with an 18-year-old. Which, ick, still wrong. But no actual buggering (that we know of yet) takes place.

Republicans: OMG SO WRONG. Dude, just resign, k?
Foley: I am ashamed. *resigns*
Democrats: WHO KNEW WHAT WHEN? WE WANT DENNY HASTERT'S HEAD ON A PLATTER! Rawr, growl, snarl.
Press: *has field day*

And this is the difference between Republicans and Democrats. We police our own. Democrats condone, defend, and re-elect...as long as the offender is a member of their own party.

Still having trouble finding my main character's "voice" in this. I think I'm just going to write the thing and then figure out exactly how he speaks and thinks. I've made some more progress on the plot. Go, me.

I have a headache.

"Lost" rocked my socks tonight, even after a second viewing. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
