So, our ISP is having a screaming deal on DSL ($89 a year! -- ends today; it's Networld and they don't serve nationwide, but they are in lots of places), so we took ourselves to Circuit City The Evil Red Empire (copyright
houstondragon) and checked out wireless routers and asked a few questions. Then we hied ourselves over to OfficeMax to see what they had.
OfficeMax is having a sale on wireless modems: $20 after mail-in rebate.
OfficeMax is having a sale on 512mb JumpDrives: $35 after mail-in rebate.
Now, even if we had decided not to go DSL, I would have bought the modem, because we travel a lot, and my parents have a pretty rockin' little setup in their motor home too. So, yeah, I bought that. And I've been wanting something to back up my fic on in case my poor little laptop ever goes kerflooey. Wally World had a 128mb storage thingy for $30, and I'd planned on grabbing one of them sometime this week, since we got paid. Well, I'm no math genius, but I know that 512mb is a lot more than 128mb, and for just $5 more?
Yeah, I grabbed that too. And after having a few problems getting it set up (ugh, don't ask; I'm an idiot), all my fic is now backed up, with plenty of room to spare.
And after getting all our questions answered, we've decided to go with the DSL, because it'll actually save us money, since we can dump our second phone line now. The DSL modem that the phone company sells? Has built-in WiFi. *does a little dance*
And now I'm thinking about getting a USB port expander. I only have one USB on this computer. More would be nice--not necessary at this point, but nice. Or maybe I'll just save my money (bwahahahahaha!) and buy one of those adorable little laptops we saw at Circuit City. Because those were way cute.
Okay, must fic now. Because if I think about all this neato tech stuff anymore my head will go splody.
