Well, we made it. The hotel has free local calls, and our ISP has expanded to Texas, so we can get online, after I had to fool the dial-up program into dialing a nine and the area code, but not the one, in order to get connected. Whee. Just have to be smarter than the computer.

We got up at 4am in order to make a 7am flight. This was after what the Hubby's airline is calling "Black Saturday," in which the weather went to total crap and stranded about a billion people at the lovely Salt Lake International Airport. When we got there at 5am, we saw that people had apparently spent the night on the floor, in the seats, and on cots. From what we heard, the airline had a 4% flight completion rate that day, and the Hubby was darn lucky to have actually made it home when he did. He had about a three-hour window in which to land, and after that nothing was able to come in at all...which meant that nothing went out either. So, that was fun, because the place was an absolute zoo.

Naturally, the weather was still crap when we got there, so the airplane we were supposed to take off in to get to Texas was still someplace else. So, our 7am flight was cancelled. This was a bad thing, because, remember that phone call I was supposed to make to be sure that Da Boy got listed? Yeah, turned out to be important. He can fly on the Hubby's airline; we can write a paper ticket for that. But he can't fly on Delta. Whee. And that was the only Hubby Airline flight direct to DFW going out that day.

We checked a schedule and found that we could go through Colorado Springs, and from there to DFW, on the Hubby Airline, so we made arrangements to do that. The COSprings flight was supposed to take off at 10:20am. Fortunately for us, they had seats available. Unfortunately, it didn't take off until 2pm. Because, naturally, the plane that was supposed to go to the Springs was...someplace else when the weather went down. Thus the wait. Funnily enough, there was a flight that was actually supposed to take off at the same time, to the same place--that did. So they had two planes going to the Springs at the same time.

We got into COSprings okay. Hubby took care of Da Boy, who slept most of the way, lucky thing. I actually got some writing done! Maybe the Muse just needed a change of scenery or something. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] illmantrim, remember the "Wesley: Death is only the beginning" suggestion you had for me, way back when? Putting the finishing touches on that bad boy right now, and will probably post it either tomorrow night or when we get back. One of my favorite Discworld characters has a cameo too, but if anyone's not familiar with Pratchett's work, it won't detract from the fic in any way, it just won't be teh funneh to them.

Hopped off the plane at the Springs, and it turns out that the same plane was going on to DFW. So, we hit the desk, they load the paying passengers, and then there's enough seats for us too, yay! I finished the rough draft of that fic on the plane (go, me!), and we hit town around 5pm (I think). Got the rental car okay, found the hotel, called the parental units, and here we are.

It's been a quite nice visit so far--they're thrilled to see us and especially Da Boy, whom they haven't seen in over a year. They can't get over how big he's gotten. LOL And he's using words, and sentences, and things too! My poor Mom had surgery on her ankle tendon, so she's pretty much immobile and can't go anywhere, so no bookstoring for me! Or not much anyway. I may hit one or two just on general principles; there's one not far from the RV park they're at, and another a few streets over. We'll exchange prezzies on Wednesday before we head back.

And hopefully the trip back won't be as much of a nightmare as the trip out was. Hubby called the Travel Dept today and they said (again!) that Da Boy should be in the system. I will attempt to get us listed via the way we're supposed to over the phone, and if he's still not in there, then someone is going to get the riot act read to them.

No time to check up on everyone in LJ-land; hope you're all well. Let me know if anything important happens....
