Various random stuff
Apr. 5th, 2004 01:23 pmGads, I have far too much to do today. I've done the hard part, thank God. I had five auctions running on eBay, that ended last night. Four of them sold, so I've been packing, calculating shipping, and emailing all morning. Now that's all done.
I have at least one package to ship today, which I received payment for on Saturday. If anyone pays me via Paypal today, then I'll have to ship out their widgets as well.
Taxes are done and forms mailed. Yay me. And what a pain in the butt that was. I love being confused by our tax laws. They keep saying they're going to make it easier, and I suppose they have in some ways, but I spent 15 minutes sweating over a worksheet to save $14 on our taxes. Okay, $14 will buy a pizza and some breadsticks, but for Pete's sake. We're getting refunds from both the state and the feds this year...which means we've basically given the government an interest-free loan. I'd rather write them a check and keep the interest myself.
In fact, I'd rather they didn't take anything out of our paychecks, and then everyone could write a check to the government for the total amount of their taxes. How many people actually pay attention to the amount they really pay? Most people look at the amount of the refund and think they're somehow screwing the government because they're getting $1000 back--without looking at the $10,000 they PAID. Our government has a nice little racket going, based on the fact that people see what they want to see.
We're going to Moab, Utah, for the Annual Easter Jeep Safari. Leaving tomorrow, getting back on Saturday. I'll keep a diary and post it when we get back. Should be a fun trip; I'm glad we're getting to go this year.
Took Da Boy for a walk the other day. (He's three, for those of you who don't know.) Now, you have to understand that we haven't walked on that particular side of the street for a few months--and we saw a garter snake over there something like eight or nine months ago. And he remembered the snake. We haven't mentioned it in ages; when we saw it he had turned two just a couple of months previous. Amazing.
And then.... He took the opportunity to give us a blow-by-blow account of the zoo trip I took him on, what, three weeks ago? He talked about the "scary birds," the hamburgers, all the different animals we saw, including the snakes and the camels. Wow. Just wow.
