I really should plan these things out better. *wrestles with alternate ending* I have no ending for this. And now I'm sitting here spinning my wheels and scribbling nonsense until I find one.

*tears out hair*

At least I'm writing? That's a good, right? In fact, the original ending had about 900 words, give or take. This one is heading toward 3K. Heh.

Yah, and what's really bad is when you go back and realize that at some point you've beaten the life out of it, the spark - that your earlier version was better written.

Me, I have a navigational problem that will dash me up on the rocks - if this story continues on its present course, my heroine is going to be brutally prison-raped, which obviously isn't something you just get up and walk away from. The experience would twist her psyche like a pretzel for years to come, maybe permanently... but... that's where the story's going, and working around it is going to be awkward.

Are we having fun yet?

Well, I've either wrestled the Muse into submission, or she's wrestled me. I may have violated my own theology for the sake of story. But dammit, I like the idea of Jayne as "guardian angel" of Serenity...

I'm not sure which version is "better," per se. They're different. I'll leave it to my readers to tell me which version is better. If they show up on my doorstep with torches and pitchforks, I guess I'll have my answer. Heh.

Of course, the thing is, this is an alternate ending. Kind of a "pick your poison." If they don't like the second version, they have the first one to cling to.

Gyah, on the prison rape. I had the same dilemma with the DamnFic, I guess, to a lesser extent. Kaylee is surrounded by people who love her, and that helps. We always hurt the characters we love...

Have you noticed that our old hangout, [livejournal.com profile] crit_sans_lube, is dead in the water? There have been no entries there since 20 September, and not a great many before that either.

Indeed, it was sheer random curiosity that even made me check it.

I know I've been remiss in posting there myownself. *sigh* I got some good advice there, once upon a time, and I've written seven fics since September. Maybe I'll stick my next one up, just out of morbid curiosity...
