Yes, Nathan's new movie. We went to a screening of it tonight.
The Good:
The Bad:
The Ugly:
Bottom line? Eh, it's worth renting. It's funny. But the moral issues are raised and never really dealt with, and that's a problem for me. Not going in the DVD collection.
The Good:
- I was laughing nearly nonstop. This is a funny, funny movie, folks.
- Andy Griffith's character was made of Awesome and Win.
- The characters and dialogue are quirky and interesting. No one is boring.
- I liked the waitress girl. She's tough, stuck in a bad situation, and finally makes her break BEFORE she finds out that she's independently wealthy.
- She also breaks it off with Nathan's character. This is good, because see "The Ugly," below.
The Bad:
- OMG adultery everywhere you look. FOUR characters in this movie are cheating on spouses. NOT cool.
- The Asshole Husband? One-dimensional creepazoid. Seriously, if there's any term for the "opposite of Gary Stu," it should be "Earl." Nothing at all likeable about him, whatsoever. And, to me, that's crappy storytelling. I want my villains to have layers, dammit.
The Ugly:
- Nathan Fillion's character is married...and his wife adores him. This made me like him less.
Bottom line? Eh, it's worth renting. It's funny. But the moral issues are raised and never really dealt with, and that's a problem for me. Not going in the DVD collection.
