We're back! Anything interesting happen while we were gone? Fandom kerfuffles, anyone pregnant, anything funny or touching? I see that FFN changed its rating system. Heh.
Moab is good for the Muse. I have finished the Temp!Corp fic, found a title for it, and will be posting it a chapter at a time over the next few days in all the appropriate places. *ponders* I can think of at least three communities I belong to where it would be very appropriate...

Left SLC about 11:45am. Drive pretty uneventful; ranted together about Terri Schiavo and how dishonest they're being about killing her. Got through first half of new Hank the Cowdog book ("The Case of the Falling Sky"). Saw a herd of deer on Hwy 6 and a flock of bighorn sheep just outside Moab. Hit town before 4pm, got set up. Ate at The Moab Brewery. Three different kinds of sausage YUM. Hubby had a Jack Daniels chicken sandwich, and Da Boy had, by request, a cheeseburger, since it was his birthday. Mint chocolate chip ice cream with some kind of malt sauce (which was also teh YUM) for dessert. I bought another glass to go with the one I already have.
Went shopping afterwards. Found a 1000 piece wolf-shaped puzzle for $6 and snagged it. Bought an interesting-looking book (something about "Monster Dogs") at the bookstore. Got Da Boy a little car/launchy-thing. Saw a license plate from Indiana; heard one couple not speaking English and a guy in a store with some kind of accent. Amazing rigs--when did Moab become hardcore? Seems like it was a couple of years ago we started noticing LOTS of rigs built specially for this, and not just plain Jeeps beefed up and modified (and street-legal) like we've had before. Talked with Dan and Ilona for a bit, then came back to the motorhome. Poked the fic awhile. No wifi here where we're parked. *sob*
Extremely windy. Rained a couple of times during the night. I might have gotten a couple of hours sleep. Ugh. I hate March.

Woo! Figured out how to keep the bar scene and excise Lindsey at the same time. I'm giving Doyle a cameo! As "just a messenger, doing one last thing." This also simplifies my life, because I had some stuff about TPTB and Spike complaining about "everyone wanting a piece of him" that would have been difficult to take out, so now I have the best of both worlds.
We didn't do much today, mostly lounged among the motorhomes. The weather has royally sucked, alternating between rain, hail, wind, and teasing hints of sunshine that never materialize into anything. Went to Zax Oven-Fired Pizza for dinner and had some cupcakes for dessert. Da Boy now has incentive to do simple math (snacks), so we're working on him with that a little. Been ficcing a bit; the plot for the Temp!Corp fic is unfolding slowly. Hubby and I hashed out an idea for a distasteful (to Lilah) assignment for our newly-liberated Evil Lawyer. Any mention of a demon division of the ACLU is purely coincidental and any resemblance to any existing legal outfit is purely unintentional. Really.
9:55pm. Dudes. You know what? One last scene, and I think I'm done with this bad boy. Yes. The fic that's been kicking my butt for nearly a year needed Moab. Somehow, I'm not surprised by this. Heh.

We did Steelbender today. No one broke, and I got some pictures. It snowed while the sun was shining, which was, you know, weird. Since the weather's too cold for lizards just yet, I entertained myself by looking for strange cacti. Prickly pear is kind of boring; you can't walk three steps out here without running into it, but several kinds of (very cute!) barrel cactus call Moab home, so I took some pictures of those whenever we stopped by one. I need a field guide so I can know what I'm shooting. The Indian Paintbrushes are starting to bloom, and some sort of purple things are coming out too (look a little like Columbines), and some teeny yellow flowers as well. Quite nice drive.
Wandered through the vendors at the arena. I bought a pair of silver jeep earrings I've been drooling over for years, and we bought a Jeeping DVD.
Ate at Eddie McStiff's. I had the shrimp, Hubby had a Mexican chicken sandwich, and Da Boy had chicken fingers. Mud pie for dessert. *slobber* They have wireless internet there, so I logged on and grabbed the song lyrics Illmantrim kindly posted for me so I could finish the fic tonight.
Which I did. *bounces* Oh, I'll still have to tweak it, but the words "The End" sit at the bottom of the last page. It comes to a little over 12K words, and I still need a title. Changes of scenery are always good for jump-starting the Muse, and Moab is no exception. We decided that we're going to try to do Behind the Rocks tomorrow.

Rain. Lots and lots of rain. 8am, and the plan is breaking down. Everyone went to breakfast. Part of the group came back around 8:35, but no telling when the rest of them will get back. Looking at the weather, I'm not sure how much they'll want to go out today, especially the guys with open rigs. It actually snowed in the upper elevations; a dusting of white graces the clifftops that surround us. March sucks.
Poking the fic some more. Got chapter titles. Still need a title for the whole thing. Just saw a Willys Wagon drive past; first one besides ours I've seen, except for the one that's been parked forever that the guy is parting out. Blue sky peeking through at last (10am). Maybe we'll go jeeping after all.
Hit the Behind the Rocks trail about 11:30am. Saw a little wildlife drama played out as a falcon of some kind chased a bird through a neighborhood, and the bird crashed on the ground. Didn't see what happened to the bird, and the falcon didn't come back for it. Interesting. Decided we were going to go to White Knuckle Hill and then come back. The Nose Dive/Upchuck obstacle on Behind the Rocks is probably the most interesting one, because it's possible to go up and down both of them--and the possibility of rolling by doing so is very real. Our friend Tony proved that to us when he went over onto his side going up Upchuck, and also pulled his steering linkage off his steering box. The rest of the trail was uneventful...except for the weather, which couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be nice, or if it wanted to alternate between thunderstorms and blizzards. It finally decided on blizzards, and of course the old Willys doesn't LIKE blizzards--or rather, the windshield wipers don't like blizzards. We limped back to Moab, hunted for our group, didn't find them, and ate at the Stagecoach Grill over on the side of town we're staying at. I had the steak, and Hubby had a chicken-fried steak, which he shared with Da Boy. Then we came back to the motor home and watched the 4x4 DVD we bought at the arena yesterday. The so-called music on it is obnoxious, but the video is pretty cool. I'm going to have to figure out how to play my own music on my puter while a DVD is playing.

Woke up to about three inches of snow all over the place. Ugh. Hemmed and hawed around, debating if we wanted to catch up with Dan on a trail or go out to the Rock Races. Finally decided, along with Curt, to try and find Dan, so we hit the road around 10 or 11. Wound up doing basic prairie romping on dirt roads in the back country, which was gorgeous, but didn't get any real wheeling in. Le sigh. And we saw Dan's group off in the distance, but they were long gone by the time we got to the road they were on. The roads were complete mud pits, and both our vehicles were covered in red dirt when we got back to base.
Okay, cactus surrounded by snow? Is sick and wrong and unnatural. Therefore, I took pictures, because, hey, when'll I *ever* see something like that again? Also saw a couple of bunny rabbits, and I took a pic of one of them.
Ate at the Branding Iron, which is practically across the street from where we're camped. Hubby shared a chicken-fried steak with Da Boy (again), and I had the club sandwich. We were *very* impressed with the food there, and they're now on our list of "places we MUST eat in Moab." Hopefully next time we'll be able to afford something a little more pricey on the menu.

Pulling out and going home today, but before we did, we headed up to Potato Salad Hill. Not much happening, but then Ilona showed up, so we left Da Boy with her at the bottom of the hill and I rode up as the Hubby attempted to take the Willys up it. Unsuccessfully. But, hey, we nearly rolled it! Good times. Hubby says that's the closest he's ever come to tipping over. Kinda skeery. But fun. We had to get strapped up the rest of the way.
Made it home just fine. I saw a squirrel chasing a rabbit in the woods beside the road, which was...weird. Why would a squirrel get mad at a rabbit? Or maybe it's mating season and the area is low on squirrels? "Come on! We're both sort of rodents! Really!" Yeah, fandom has officially boiled my brain.
