Oh, I know it's an acceptable ship. [grin] But I also know that there are people out there that hate Fred, and thus hate the idea of Spike and her together. And of course there are the diehard Spuffy shippers, that think that Buffy is Spike's One Twue Wuv. And the more I think about Spuffy, the more I go.... "Meh." Because, honestly, those two? Not good for each other.
'Ship wars are nothing new ~ and despite the rampant Spuffiness (most of my friends in fandom are Spuffs) I remain immune to the lure of the 'ship. I Spuffed, once upon a time, until I was able to view all the seasons of BtVS in order *hence in context*. And I determined Buffy was a hateful example of empowered humanity and, no matter what transgressions Spike committed (and usually tried to amend), she had no right to treat him the way she did.
Which is why in my canon shippyness, I lean towards Spike/Tara, Spike/Faith (non-violent; a non-canon Spuff redux), and I have no objections to Spike/Fred. Suprisingly for me, its a slash ship that I hold the most affection for ~ Spike/Wes. Two of Love's Bitches finally finding some comfort with each other ::sigh::.
Yeah, I can see that. I'm not going to say that I'll never ever write slash, because "never" is a long time...but I'm nearly to the point where I'd rather see Spike with Dawn (as much as the idea squicks me, unless she's way older than she is now) than Buffy.
I can safely say, that unless I receive a challenge I cannot ignore, I will *never* write Spawn. Don't care how old, or mature, Dawn might be in the fic. I don't see anything there remotely shippy, and it kills the 'big brother/little sis' relationship that made Dawn tolerable to me in S5-6. To me, it would be hypocritical to write Spawn, since one of the reasons I thought the Bangel relationship was gross was the fact Stink Guy Angel started his lustfest over Buffy when she was a lollipop sucking 15 year old. ICK.
LOL I don't blame you a bit. She was kind of crushing on him for awhile there, though...and I can see where that might turn into something deeper, if handled correctly.
