Computer woes...

So, I've got this old Dell laptop with a 6.4gig HD that I'm trying desperately to get rid of. I've got a friend who wants it, if I get get it to actually DO anything for him. I don't think it'll run WinXP, so I did a clean install of Win98 on it.

And now? It won't make any sounds, and the screen resolution is stuck at 480x600 or some damb thing. I know I need to put some drivers or something on it so it'll run music CDs and stuff like that, and I seem to remember something about NeoMagic from before, but blessed if I can remember exactly what I did to it way back when to get it where I wanted it to be.

Any computer gurus on my flist want to help me take a crack at this thing tomorrow over IM? I can download what I need onto this puter, stick it on a CD, and transfer it over to the other one. Scandisk showed no bad sectors, so I think the hard drive is fine. I just don't know enough to figure out exactly what I need to do to get it up to spec. I think I had help before, but I'm not really a member of that community anymore, so I'm not comfy asking him again.

This is the difference between me being comfy with money going to writercon, or kind of squeaking by. Argh. I do NOT need this...
