Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Okay, I'm reading a book.

I'm 455 pages into it, and I have 120 pages left.

And it's got cast-of-thousands-itis, the plot (such as it is) meanders all over the place both narratively and location-wise, and I'm not really enjoying it, particularly.

I hate not finishing it, but, dude. Life is too short to read a fiction book I have to slog through. I'm one of those people who hates not finishing a book I've started, but I think I'm going to give up on this one. I have two entire bookshelves full of books to read that I will no doubt enjoy more than this, and there's no sense in reading a novel if it's a chore.

Right? Validate me? Someone?

Toss it aside...it's obviously not going to be worth your time. Go watch Iron Man 2 instead to drown your sorrows.

Absolutely! I'm surpriseed you got this far into the book.

Life is to short force yourself to finish something you dislike that is supposed to be for your entertainment.

I abandon books half-way through for that very reason. I also stop watching tv series or shut off a movie before the end if it's just not clicking with me.

You're absolutely right, it shouldn't be a chore! ;)

Reading should give you pleasure, not frustration! If it's not working for you, it's not worth the time.
I gave up on "Ulysses" when a bunch of us were reading it, because I kept reading the same pages over and over again. It bored me to tears, and I could never remember what I'd read before. So I quit, in spite of the fact that a number of my friends thought it was the greatest book ever!. Not.

I used to HATE not finishing a book... then I started reading one called 'Patrick', which, while the writing was good, the main character was a selfish prick and despite all the crap he'd gone through halfway into a 600 page book had learned Absolutely. Freaking. Nothing. First book I put aside.

Right now I'm debating if I will ever pick up Cherie Priest's steampunk again. I read like 140 pages and it's sooooooooooo slooooooooooooow and boring and nothing has happened... but I spent fifteen bucks on it!! EGRERGERG!!!

(See. I totally understand. May we know what book so we know what to avoid?)

It's "Dies the Fire" by SM Stirling, and it was recommended to me by a friend. I now realize that his and my tastes coincide only by wild coincidence, and this time they didn't. Alas.

My dad tried reading a book by him and gave it to me... only after getting 1/3 of the way through. I didn't even try to read it but sent it off to my cousin in Afghanistan for the small library I seem to be building for the soldiers over there. :)

He's even read the paranormal romance I've sent over... guess it's the closest they can get to sex or porn. O_o
