Argh. Mark this day on your calendars, people. My husband...agrees with my mother. What about, you may ask? My writing. They both think that fanfiction is a crutch for me and that I need to start creating my own characters and my own 'verses. I've got a start on them, of course. Pastor Tom, Mandy, Dusty, and Alicia all belong to me, and I could probably incorporate them into...something or other.

Heck, I've even figured out how to keep Spike. Lengthen and darken the hair, change the clothes a bit, give him a Southern accent instead of an English one, let him keep the attitude...After all, it's the personality of the character that's so compelling, right? So changing external things just enough to make him my own still lets me keep him around. Which is cheating a little, I'll admit, but I don't mind if no one else does.

Of course, writing original fiction is indimidating. I have to decide if I want to stick with the supernatural thing (with my own perspective, of course), or if I want to do something more general, or if I want to branch out into scifi or fantasy. And then there's the whole "what am I going to do with these characters" question. If I want to keep the vampires, I'll need to make them different enough from JossVerse vamps that they're mine and not his.

But all this is sounding suspiciously like...work. And again, I say: Argh.

Work. The horror! Don't worry; whatever you do, I have absolute faith that it'll turn out positively amazing. ^_^ You just have to make sure to post it so we all can read it, too.

Oh, and keeping Spike is a great idea. Love Spike. His attitude rocks. I also love his hair, (I have become obsessed with bleached hair on guys because of him) but yes, his personality is the best thing about him. *g*

My favorite Spike hair is early S7, half-colored and curly. Rawr. So, having it longer and darker, not a problem for me. LOL

And it'll be posted, probably here and at FictionPress. And if it gets published (bwahahahaahahaaaaaa!) then of course I'll brag to the skies about it.

writing often is work in the elements of it... but you can do it!

I know it is, and Lord knows I've done my share of research for my fics. I guess I just need to do a *different* kind of research now, and it's freaking me out a little, is all.

See, fanfiction is part-crutch for me, but also part of it is also not. Writing original fiction is hard, but that's not the only reason I write fanfiction. I write fanfiction because I like the show.

But turning fanfiction into original fiction could be very easy. And making a Spike-ish character would be cool, too. I mean, if you check out The Sandman, the character of the Corinthian is like Spike (complete with blonde hair). And if you read The Eyre Affair, there is actually a character named Spike who is part-vampire and eats rats.
