Hey! Is that picspam I see?

I realized the other day that I hadn't ever finished uploading the pix from the Seattle trip. So, without further ado...

Goldenrod Crab Spider: I saw this beautiful spider when I noticed the bumblebee hanging rather unnaturally from the plant and thought "Hm. That doesn't look right." Not something you get to see every day.

Various butterflies:

Milkweed Longhorn:

Ospreys! Nesting!

And a squirrel, who was quite sure we couldn't see him, flattened out on the tree limb like that.

These were all shot around Flathead Lake. What a lovely place!

In other news, I haven't written a thing. I emailed the CatFeet story to another market today, because my printer is having *cough*issues*cough* and I couldn't print it out to send it to the place it was supposed to go next.

*cries* I HAVE NO PLOT. I have giant bugs and nothing to do with them. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO MEEEEEE??? I have two versions of the story, one where the protag is an entomologist (sorry, flist, but it's easy enough to change), and another where he's one of the oil company execs partially responsible for the disaster in the first place.

And I don't have anything for him to DO. There's no frelling conflict. He doesn't want anything. He's not talking to me.

Damn damn damn. And hell. Shall I add a crap to that for good measure?

That is some camera you have! The pics are so sharp.

I haven't seen osprey since a trip to northern MN about twenty years ago. It's a real treat, you posting these. Thanks!

Great shots. Poor bumble. The squirrel is adorable.

Amazing pictures, so crisp and clear.

I wish I could do something for your writer's block. I believe it will lift eventually.

It lifted last night when I decided to kill a dog for a plot point. *evil laughter* I have PLOT, baby!

And that is a shiny, shiny camera I have. Of course, I only publish the ones that actually come out halfway decent. ;)

Have you tried the writer's block question approach? "If this happened, so and so would do this." etc. It works sometimes if you just keep asking a series of questions. "What would happen next?" etc.

[identity profile] agilebrit.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't have the questions to ask, but I now have plot. And an actual gender for my main character. Heh.

[identity profile] mermaidrain.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That works. ;)

I was trying to find an example of what I was talking about with the questions but I can't. I did find this, however:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A701001

VERY funny that one. But the question method is supposed to help you get out of writers' block by asking a series of questions that basically creates the next scenario or step of your scene. They're supposed to be intuitive and pertain to your specific case. I had a teacher that had us do this once and I'm not remembering it very clearly.

I had a scene but I didn't know what to do with it or the characters. It was an ice skating in the dark scene between a boy and a girl. And I was stuck. So then the questions become: "what happens next? what type of story is it? does that help you figure out what happens next? what could happen next? etc.

Does that make sense at all?

Well, I have plot and theme and people doing the wrong thing for the right reasons and buckets of angst AND all sorts of really cool science now.

I may have to give the Hubby a byline on this thing; he's helped me tremendously with it.

Ah, well, that's good. In fact, sounds intriguing and I can't wait to read it. ;) I had a story idea once (a play idea really) that involved giant bugs but it was never really well developed. Had something to do with them being the neighbors nobody wanted or something and it was supposed to be along the experimental lines of "Waiting for Godot" (which isn't my style anyway) so I doubt that will ever get written. LOL!

But I meant the writers' block stuff to be used for later if you should ever find a need for it again. ;)

And you know, I've been meaning to ask for a while now, do you ever use those daily writing prompts? They can be good for daily writing, but they also generate a LOT of great stories (at least they have for me in the past). ;)
