Fossils are seriously cool...

Especially when you dig them up yourself.

I didn't get lost on my way to the quarry (yay!), and we arrived there at around 10:40, after leaving at 7:40. We bashed rocks for two hours, and got lots of pretty nice specimens. I swear, I brought home about forty pounds worth of rock. Oog.

And naturally, I forgot to take my painkillers before we left. So I took them when we got home (around 4:10), and am feeling somewhat better now. I'll have to sort through what we got and see what's worth keeping.

That sounds like so much fun!!! And it's actually something I wanted to do when I first moved to Utah and never got around to doing... something else to add to the list of things to do on summer vacations, I guess (I finally hiked up to Timpanogos Cave earlier this year... after living at the base of Mt. Timp for nine years and never going).

We have saphire mines and places where you can pan for gold around here. I did a field trip with the USS Appomattox years ago. I didn't do much digging. I was the CO so I just got the red shirts to do the work.

I love fossils! I bought a very attractive Ammonite that had fire opals formed on it to give as a gift to my sister. I hope she thought it was cool...
