2008 Conventions...

My cup appears to be runneth-ing over. We have:
  • Life, the Universe, and Everything -- Feb 14-16, in Provo. This one is free, Orson Scott Card and Gail Carson Levine are the GoH's, and all my local friends are going to be there. Seriously, a no-brainer, of course I'm going. If anyone wants autographs, let me know or send me stuff.
  • CONduit -- May 23-25, in SLC. I don't know who Michael Stackpole is, but last year's CONduit was chock full of writing panels and information and fun, so... yeah. And TRAX stops right in front of the hotel.
  • WorldCon -- Aug 6-10, in Denver. With Lois McMaster Bujold being the GoH and the thing being practically in my backyard, I'm really lusting after this one. However, since it's not exactly in my backyard, I will need to get a hotel room and feed myself somehow. I'm not sure I'd need a car.
  • MountainCon -- sometime in Sept, in SLC. Again, I live here, no-brainer.

And then there's the World Horror Convention, which is making its home in SLC Mar 27-30. I'm still debating this one, since I'm not a "horror writer" per se and I'm sure that stranger people than I'm used to are going to be attending this thing. So, even though it's here, I'm not sure I want to go.

AND THEN...does anyone know if there's going to be a [livejournal.com profile] writercon next year?

AUGH.

I keep meaning to read Orson Scott Card, but his Ender's Game is never in at the library. I would be giddy to see Lois McMaster Bujold. I would love to have Paladin of Souls autographed.

You have so many opportunities! Fun!

Well, if I get plans to WorldCon solidified (I'm lobbying hard for it), I'll put out a general call to my flist and invite y'all to send me stuff to get autographed. :)

I found an old paperback copy of Ender's Game at a used bookstore for something like $2, and it's totally worth buying.

I shall hope that you get to attend everything your heart desires! An autographed Bujold would be a cherished item!

I hope, hope, hope there will be a writercon. I had so much fun at the last one.

I when to World Con when it was in San Antonio. It was huge and very cool. You'll have fun at that. Sounds like there are more cons in your area than mine. :)

I'd love for there to be another WriterCon, but it all depends on dates and finances and such as to whether I'll be able to attend--and if it comes down to a choice between WorldCon and WriterCon, it's going to have to be WorldCon.

Here's a partial list of cons in Texas, but they don't list ArmadilloCon in Austin.

Sadly, few of these are as nifty as the ones you're heading for. Next year I plan to do ArmadilloCon (because I always do, it's in town) and WriterCon if they have it. If they do I hope you can make it!

Go to World Horror...

World Horror is actually modeled after World Fantasy & is a professional con, with real writers, editors, agents, & a minimal presence for dress-up folks looking like Klingons or whatever.

A lovely bunch of folks, truly.

We'll miss you if you don't come!
