Oh, my.

Court backs ban on abortion procedure.

The Supreme Court has backed the federal ban on D&X (partial birth) abortions.

Praise the Lord! *does chair-dance*

The usual suspects are howling in anger over not being able to deliver a baby backwards except for her head, jam a pair of scissors through the back of her skull, and vacuum her brains out, before completing the delivery, but I'm pleased as punch.

What a wonderful thing to wake up to.

ITA! This particular "procedure" has no merit IMHO...It forces a breech birth (dangerous when natural much less induced) and I have yet to hear of a single case where it did other than make the mother's life MORE at risk.

I don't believe in abortion (for myself) due to spiritual beliefs, DO believe in legal abortions for those not sharing my beliefs but cannot understand the controversy about ending THIS form!

Dancing with you.

My OB-GYN, when asked, told me that this procedure is never ever medically necessary for the mother. All it does is ensure a dead baby--and make it easier to harvest brain tissue and organs. Not only that, but they insert laminaria to dilate the cervix, which takes a couple of days. No emergency procedure, this.

Are you familiar with one of the Writercon chairs, who is a doctor and says that this is a procedure sometimes necessary to save the life of the mother?

I'm a liberal, torn on the subject of abortion in general, and very glad it was never a choice I had to face.

I'm not, but my own doctor was horrified when I asked him about the procedure and said that he couldn't conceive (heh) of ANY circumstance where he'd do it.

And since there's an exception there for the life of the mother, a doctor is covered if it is necessary.

Right there with you, on all counts!

I was so happy to hear the news this morning!

Well this is good news. I've seen a video of partial-birth abortion during a bio-of-sex class and it was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I'm not going to object to legal abortions in the first trimester, but this? This is disgusting.

OMG, they had a video. The line drawings are bad enough. *shudders*

And there should have been a question mark after that first sentence. I fail at punctuation.

WHOA! why were you watching that?

Biology of Sex also covered methods of contraception. It was a v.broad class, not just human sexual physiology, behaviors and habits.

Yes, it is a wonderful thing! That made my day!!! =)

The ones that are howling in anger, they can kiss off and go cry in their drinks tonight.

[identity profile] agilebrit.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. What's really funny is to see the people saying that the "Supreme Court banned partial-birth abortion," which is so completely wrong. The Congress passed a law, the President signed it. The Court merely upheld the law. It's not like the Court made up a law out of whole cloth like they did in Roe v Wade.

I am very glad this brutal procedure will no longer be sanctioned.

Hopefully this decision will remind people exactly WHY it's important to have the right person in the White House. John Kerry and AlGore would never have appointed people that would vote this way. George may be a disappointment in some ways, but his SCt appointments were right on.
