Mainly I'll use it to post short stuff that's not particularly worth an entire LJ entry, and to keep up with my writer friends, most of whom I only get to see twice a year.

I still refuse categorically to facebook, however.

Clearly, making a Thing illegal does not stop that Illegal Thing from happening. I mean, murder is illegal, and that certainly didn't stop Belcher from murdering Kasandra. Perhaps instead of decrying "gun culture," you should instead decry a culture that cheapens life to the point where they casually talk about poppin' a cap in that bitch and no one blinks.

I mean, I live in Utah. I hang out with a bunch of bona fide gun nuts and am heavily involved in "gun culture." And every single one of these people is horrified by the notion of it being necessary to actually exercise their concealed carry permit to the point of killing someone.

So, Mr. Costas, maybe it would behoove you to actually research real gun culture before you pop off about it.

Just a suggestion.

It occurs to me...

That at least two of these outlines and possibly three of them involve characters I've already created. My spaceship crew has been published once (twice if you count here), but Alex and Ben have yet to see the light of day in any publication anywhere, which is... kind of a shame because I love them dearly and think they're awesome.

But they say to write what you know, and I know these people, so I'm going to write them again and hope that the stories make sense without the backstory that clearly goes along with them being extant. I am not Jim Butcher writing a short story about Harry here. Maybe someday.

In other news, it also occurred to me earlier that there may be a Rush To Judgment on the whole "Josh Brent, drunk driving Dallas Cowboy" incident. Most of the time, in these news stories, you see the driver's blood alcohol level prominently displayed somewhere. All I've seen out of this is "He failed a field sobriety test and they drew his blood and charged him with intoxication manslaughter."

Well, you know, if I'd flipped my car and then dragged my dead friend out of the flaming wreckage, I think I'd flunk a field sobriety test too, whether I'd had anything to drink the entire previous week or not. What happened to "blow into this tube for us, dude"? You cannot tell me that the Irving PD does not have any portable breathalyzers.

I am in no way excusing drunk driving. But shouldn't we make damn sure the guy was actually drunk before we go all accusatory on him?
