Dude.

The villain of this piece may not be so villainous after all.

And, somehow, when I wasn't looking, she went from American to Irish. Yeah, I don't know either.

Thing is, Thrall (here) works both ways. So, she now knows the kind of person that Ben is. And while I've snapped him right in half (yet again), I broke her a little too.

And I'm not quite sure what to do with that.

Also, apparently someone behind the scenes is pulling strings. Who in Ben's past would want to put him in the equivalent of Alcatraz for vamps and weres? This is something else I'm going to have to figure out.

In wordcount news, I hit my goal and then cracked it by a thousand. Dude. I don't even have Plot yet. Of course, I'm not sure I had Plot for the other thing until I hit around 20K or so, so we'll see how it shakes out. But, yeah, my villain just got interesting.

Oh, my.

Just got back from seeing "The Soloist."

Wow, y'all, that was really good. Jamie and Robert both deserve Oscars for that. There are no easy answers here, and the movie doesn't shy away from that fact.

Also, in spite of the horrible hair, Robert continues to be very very pretty. Yeah, you should run out and see this.

In other news, I blew past 5,000 words in the new novelthing this afternoon. At this point it's just character development and word vomit, where I'm figuring out who my new characters are and how they interact with the old ones, and how much of a setback Ben's had here and how it will change him, and if he's going to come back from it and how far...

Yeah, word vomit. This is why those of us who don't outline say that the first draft is the outline.

And this means that I've hit my weekly wordcount goal on Tuesday. The rest of the week is gravy. Of course, the daily goal resets every day, so I'll have to keep that up. *nods firmly*

In the never-ending quest for knowledge...

and in the interests of what we loosely call "research" around here, I've looked up such diverse subjects tonight as "Stockholm Syndrome" and "shock collars."

No, I'm not going to tell you why. But I did find out that shock collars work exactly the way I need them to for my plot, and that opens the way for things to go disastrously wrong for my (putative) villain (who is no longer as villainous as she seemed at first blush)--and thus for Ben.

Stockholm Syndrome can apparently manifest in as little as three or four days. INTERESTING.
