Okay, I just checked the average room rates for the downtown Denver Hyatt that WorldCon has contracted the rooms for?

OUCH, man.

I'm going to start saving now. This...ain't WriterCon. Not by a long shot. This is a whole 'nother level of Con. I'm looking at around a thousand dollars just for the room, food, and the registration--assuming I can find a roommate or two. This isn't taking transportation (such as a car rental) or even getting there into consideration. Plus, walking-around money? Eek!

If I could start getting paid for my writing, that'd be just keen...

Oh, I'm not ruling out going at all. I've checked other hotels in the surrounding area, and the Ramada is eminently doable, and the train goes right by it. So even if I have to room alone, I could stay at that one.

What gets me is that in most of these nose-in-the-air, we're-so-hoity-toity places, you don't get a free breakfast and they want ten bucks a day for internet access, whereas in the cheaper places that I've seen people mock ("Under a hundred bucks a day? UGH! Fleabags!"--seriously, saw that on [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck the other day and was gobsmacked), they give you breakfast--sometimes a hot one--and free internet. It's weird.

They'll be posting their con-goer rates in January. But I still need to start saving for it now. This will also score points with the Hubby, who will be more easily persuaded to make up for any shortfall I have if he sees that I'm serious about saving.
