This is two weeks' worth, because we weren't here last Monday. Yay?

Last time's word count: 132,044
This week's word count: 137,324
Word count for two weeks: 5,280

Hey, look, a mile's worth. Hee.

I think this is going to be my last Weekly Word Count post for awhile. I've done well on the year (I guess) as far as the count goes, although as far as the Story goes, the thing is all over the place and I have my doubts that it will ever see publication.

I may or may not do a "year in review" type thing. It's been kind of a dismal year, writing-wise, for me. I don't really feel as though I got a lot accomplished. I may change my mind after I look at the raw numbers. Maybe.

Last week's word count: 129,118
This week's word count: 132,044
Word count for the week: 2,926

*squints*

Not bad. Although I really should be working on the Ghost Ship story. *smacks Antubis*

Last week's word count: 127,115
This week's word count: 129,118
Word count for the week: 2,003

Not awful. It's trucking along, I suppose. I swear, by the time I finish it, I'll be knocking on 160K. This is a bad thing. *headdesks repeatedly*

Let's have a Weekly Word Count, shall we?

Last week's word count: 124,184
This week's word count: 127,115
Word count for the week: 2,931

Nice. I'll take that. Kinda wish I'd persevered a little longer last night and crossed the 3,0000 mark, but it was really late and I was bummed by the Steelers' loss, so... yeah.

I'm noticing, while writing this segment, that my love of Moab is coming through loud and clear. Hee. Stompy ravens.

Of course, this means that by the time I finish my first draft, it's probably going to be knocking on the door of 150,000 words. Fortunately, there's a lot of excess here that can be trimmed and combined. I'd rather have too much than not enough.

And the Weekly Word Count.

Thanks to Word Wars yesterday afternoon, I managed to hit the goal for the week, although the daily goal went to hell in a handbasket due to me concentrating more on the agent hunt than getting new words into this cesspit of suck. My problem is (once again) that I do not have the chops to actually do justice to this storyline and I love Ben too much to give him an unhappy ending after all the poor puppy's been through. *massive, heavy sigh*

Anyway.

Last week's word count: 122,366
This week's word count: 124,184
Word count for the week: 1,818

Feh.

Stay tuned for a (rather lengthy) snippet.

And thus time for the Weekly Word Count.

Last week's wordcount: 120,500
This week's wordcount: 122,366
Word count for the week: 1,866

*wipes brow* Barely hit the goal.

HOWEVER. I have been hard at work on the Query Letter of Doom, which is sitting at 177 words right now, so, there's that. And that's after massive editing and paring down and squinting and tearing hair out over such tiny things as wondering if a target is painted on Ben's back as opposed to his chest, and whether he's a pawn in a chess match or a wild card in a poker game.

*snorts* Neither of which (the target or the game metaphor) have actually made it into the current version of the thing.

Monday Maunderings are going to be flocked--I'm going to post the query for y'all to tear into. Stay tuned.

And thus time for...

The Weekly Word Count. /reverb

Last week's word count: 118,444
This week's word count: 120,500
Word count for the week: 2,056

I'll take it, although I'm not actually sure that the latest "kill me please" scene I scribbled last night is actually going to make the Final Cut.

In other news, this week is going to be taken up with outlining the first novel so I actually have an idea of what happened in each chapter, and then I'm going to hammer at the Query Letter of Doom. Because the first one needs to start pulling its weight around here.

And the fact that I don't actually have the last version of the novelthing here with me (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME GET IT BACK), all I'm going to do for the Weekly Word Count this week is post what I did in the new doc that I've been religiously saving to my thumb drive:

And the number is...

2085

*tilts head, squints* Not bad.

And, you know what? While I'm here, have the snippet, which I picked out for you last night. Language warning? We're all grownups here, right?

The chair creaked, and Ben heard Perez kneel next to the cage. “I need you to know something. Look at me.”

Ben cracked his eyelids open. Still heaving for breath.

“If you hurt her, I will kill you myself with my bare hands. Are we clear?”

“Is that what this is about? You're a fucking idiot.” In general, Ben moderated his language around people he cared about. Perez didn't qualify. “I would never hurt her.” Getting air now. He managed a glare. “She's safer with me than some vamps I can name. And if I did hurt her, even by accident, you wouldn't have to kill me. I'd do it my-damn-self.”

“Just so we understand each other.” Perez unclipped the carabiner.

And that's when Ben grabbed his wrist and wrenched his arm into the cage. “Ange is safe around me,” he said. His lips skinned back from fangs, and his claws pierced Perez's skin. Blood welled up around them. Ben felt his eyes change color as his vision sharpened. “You aren't, necessarily. The only reason I don't rip your arm off and shove it up your ass right now? Is because I'd end up back on the table and that would make her sad.”

Perez held himself still. Now he was the one not breathing, Ben noticed. Not that he needed to. Saliva dripped from Ben's teeth onto the pinioned wrist, and he continued, “You want to talk to me, that's fine, we'll talk. I'll buy you a beer. You don't knock me out, stick me in a cage, and fucking handcuff me.”

He released Perez then and shoved himself backwards until his back hit the wall, closing his eyes and panting, pressing his fist against his aching chest. “Just so we understand each other.”
